Boat Hotels – They’re Rooms that Float
If you have an old boat that’s not seaworthy but floats, it could become a boat hotel. I had the pleasure of staying at the Fortuna Boat Hotel in Budapest this summer. Moored slightly out of the tourist-core but walkable, this riverboat rises and falls with the tide.
I booked the best suite at the bow, room 202 called Christopher Columbus. My friend Andy, 201 – Amerigo Vespucci. We set out on this trip to be explorers, these rooms made us feel that way. We drove a van across Europe seeing various motorways, so being on the water for a night was a nice change.
Should you stay on a boat hotel? Yes, it is novel for a short stay like ours. Just know that it is a boat so the facilities reflect that with smaller bathroom and confined spaces. The mooring outside the core makes it more affordable. The interiors of these boats are often dated for obvious reasons. I would skip the provided breakfast due to the limited kitchen space.
