Peter McCallister & the Home Alone Dad Myths

How did Peter McCallister pay to take his entire 15-member family to Paris? Was he a member of the Chicago mob? How could they afford that house? A lot has been written about these annual questions but rarely will you find the correct answers, until today. Let’s start with the troupe:

Kevin’s dad, Peter, did not pay for the trip to Paris. His brother Rob did. Rob left New York to take an executive position in Paris, as this was their first Christmas apart, brother Rob paid for the entire family to visit him. This fact is mentioned several times in the movie.

Kevin’s dad was not in the mob, as revealed in Home Alone 2, he is a business executive like Rob.

The house was worth less than 1 million dollars in 1990, in fact it sold for 1.2 million in 2012. Housing is 5 times more expensive today than in 1990, so while the house seems crazy to us today – it was reasonable for an executive with two working adults with children to have such a house.
